VIKING on EXTRA!

Be sure to watch the celebrity TV show EXTRA today as they reveal their new kitchen set featuring VIKING products including: induction cooktop, freestanding refrigerator/freezer, built-in oven, microwave and warming drawer.
Stay tuned next week when they do the big reveal and visit Sues, Young and Brown’s showroom. The 2007 Viking Featured Designer, Nicole Sassaman, designed the set and will be featured in the segment as well. Also watch for VIKING cookware, cutlery and countertop appliances, which were provided. Following the kick-off of the new set, “Extra” will be featuring a virtual kitchen tour on their Web site at extratv.com. Check the Web site later this month to see images and information on the Viking products provided.
“Extra” airs in over 95 percent of the country on major affiliates like NBC, and their Web site receives over 6.5 million hits per month. The estimated audience viewership is over three million people. Please check your local listings for the channel and time Extra will air.

Viking products are currently being featured in Will Smith’s blockbuster movie I Am Legend. It is a large kitchen in a Manhattan Brownstone, and features a Viking range, hood, built-in oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher.

The products appear in two scenes in the film. In one scene Will Smith’s character retrieves food from the refrigerator, and in the other scene he is preparing breakfast.

“The whisks and pots of the former Viking store on McKinney Avenue are long gone, but the spot is still all about Viking, and then some.
“This is the home of Milestone Distribution,” says Cordon Bleu-trained Sharon Van Meter, whose SVM Productions handles events at the store. Those range from sit-down dinners out front to cooking classes in the demonstration theater and hands-on kitchen, holdovers from the store’s previous incarnation. “This is their showroom,” the chef says. “The whole idea is to come in, hang out, cook on them, watch me cook on them.”
“Them” are Viking’s heavy-duty, restaurant-inspired stoves as well as a working Aga, the English cast-iron cooker that looks like a stove with doors and quickens the pulse of many a foodie.
Besides the hands-on stoves, Milestone rotates nonworking displays of new Viking products and accessories, such as wine cellars that fit under the counter and pull out like drawers.
Ms. Van Meter also produces the Sunday KRLD-AM (1080) radio show “Taste of … With Dan Potter and Sharon Van Meter” in the demonstration theater.
Scurrying from showroom to patio to kitchen, her enthusiasm is contagious.
“We have found that food’s exciting again,” she says. And classes like the sold-out one with Asian Mint chef-owner Nikky Phinyawatana suggest she’s not the only one. “

Viking has launched the in-storeReadyTouch marketing systems in Viking Distributor and select dealer retail showrooms. TheReadyTouch system provides complete product information to consumers who visit retail dealerships carrying Viking kitchen appliances.
The in-store systems give consumers touch screen access to the complete line of Viking appliances including color choices, configuration options,pricing, and available accessories.

Congratulations to David McMillan, executive chef of 62 Main Restaurant, the 2008 Winner of the Stainless Steel Chef Competition! Casey Thompson, executive chef of Shinsei, came in close behind as the first runner-up with her outstanding red snapper creations.
Hosted by The Viking Cooking School at Milestone Culinary Arts Center & D Magazine, over 200 guests enjoyed the heated competition and an up-close and personal look at Dallas’ Hottest Chefs at work!
The chef partipants at this year’s 2nd annual event include: Kelly Hightower of Kavala Mediterranean Grill, Tim Love of Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, Kevin Maxey of Craft, David McMillan of 62 Main Restaurant, Casey Thompson of Shinsei, and Tre Wilcox, former chef of Abacus.
Contest judges included Nancy Nicols, D Magazine food and travel editor, Paula Lambert, founder of the Mozzarella Company and many other local foodies and restaurateurs. This year’s special guest judge: Chris Ward, the 2007 Stainless Steel Chef winner.
